Dec. 3, 2020
In a global society including Japan, we are facing the challenge of transforming ourselves into a new social economy that makes full use of digital technology. In Asian countries, IT policies and projects for the new normal are being promoted. In order to mutually understand its developments and to share such IT expertise among Asian countries, CICC held a conference on "National Digital Policies and Projects in the New Normal Era" on December 3, 2020, connecting 9 countries online.
In addition to Japan, 5 ASEAN countries (Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam) and 3 South Asian countries (India, Nepal, and Pakistan) participated and those IT-related government officials gave presentations on their initiatives. We had a meaningful exchange of opinions and information about such as Digital Transformation (DX) in the corona crisis of those countries. We hope that this conference will contribute to the planning of future IT policies in Asia. We would like to express our gratitude to the participants of this conference, as well as to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), ASEAN-JAPAN CENTRE and Institute of Digital Government, Waseda University for their support.
At the conference, followed by an opening address by CICC President Toshiaki HIGASHIHARA (President and CEO at Hitachi, Ltd.), Ms. Mika NISHIMURA, Deputy Director read up a salutation speech on behalf of Mr. Kazumi NISHIKAWA, Director, IT Industry Division, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Outline of his speech was, “The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken global society enormously. This change has indicated that there are enormous areas of digital technology mankind could score. It is great opportunity to promote digitalization and to increase global competitiveness. I hope you take this opportunity to lead digital transformation in your respective countries.”
As the keynote speech, Ms. Mika NISHIMURA introduced DX policy of Japan and METI’s efforts under the title of “DX Policy in the New-Normal era“.
As the main event of this webinar, delegates from 8 Asian countries respectively gave us their presentation pertaining to “current status of IT policies and flagship projects in the new normal era”.

As we had restrictions on travel from overseas due to COVID-19 pandemic this year, we successfully completed this conference with simultaneous connection in 9 countries, thanks to great effort from each dignitary. It was a valuable opportunity to exchange information on each DX initiative timely.
CICC has been and shall continue to enhance cooperative relationship with Asian countries, moving forward.
